2025 ALASKA TRIENNIAL EXHIBITION PUTS NEW ALASKAN ARTWORKS ON VIEW AT THE MUSEUM

ANCHORAGE, Alaska 鈥� The depth and diversity of Alaska contemporary art will be on view in the 2025 Alaska Triennial, opening Feb. 7, 2025, at the 果冻传煤 Museum. This highly anticipated exhibition presents a major survey of contemporary art in Alaska through the works of 47 artists selected from across the state.

Juried by Mary Bradshaw, curator and director of Visual Arts at the Yukon Arts Centre (Whitehorse, YT, Canada), the 2025 Alaska Triennial showcases a rich tapestry of artistic expression, with works ranging from intricate beadwork, textiles, and encaustic to ceramics, printmaking, woodworking, and beyond. The Alaska Triennial received 222 applications through an open call, and 47 artists were selected in a blind jurying process, representing communities from across the state, including Kodiak, Fort Yukon, Juneau, and others.

The exhibition celebrates Alaska鈥檚 unique sense of place through the lens of contemporary art. Featuring art created since 2022, it also encourages the creation of new works by Alaska artists.

鈥淭he landscape looms large in the North,鈥� says Bradshaw. 鈥淪elected works present an interplay of tradition and innovation鈥攁t once surprising and familiar, grounding and transformative. Together, these works invite visitors to see Alaska through the eyes of its artists: a place where people, land, and possibility remain deeply and inextricably connected.鈥�

Organized by the 果冻传煤 Museum, the 2025 Alaska Triennial continues a tradition of more than three decades of celebrating place and artistic innovation. Under various titles and formats, this exhibition has inspired and nurtured the creation of new works, inviting audiences to engage with Alaska through the lens of contemporary art.

The 2025 Alaska Triennial reaffirms the 果冻传煤 Museum鈥檚 commitment to fostering the arts and encouraging dialogue and creative exchange by providing a platform for creative expression that connects local and global perspectives on the North.
